Visiting AJ’s Monkeys and Sloths in Roatan Honduras was one of the highlights of our recent cruise. We chose this as an add-on when we booked a day at Little French Key Resort, and we were so glad we did. We were traveling as a group of 15 including adults and children and everyone enjoyed this stop! We were able to interact with multiple animals and received a plethora of photos documenting our time. The guides were very knowledgeable and ensured everyone had time with the animals. We were excited to be able to interact with guinea pigs, sloths, monkeys, and a parrot for only $15 per person (and our 3-year-old was free). This is a must-do in my book.
Let’s talk animals!
The tour at AJ’s Monkeys and Sloths started with guinea pigs. While these are not exotic animals for most, they were adorable and fun to hold. My oldest son (6) said the guinea pigs were one of his favorite parts. We held them, cuddled with them, and even let them sit on our heads. We learned there were so many because they have a short gestational cycle and multiply quickly. Learning new facts about the animals we saw was part of the fun.

The next stop on the tour was the sloths. I was so excited about this part and it did not disappoint. After a quick demonstration of how to safely hold them, we each took a turn. Four sloths were available to hold and we were taught how to tell the difference between the males and females by the markings on their backs. I was a little worried about my youngest (3) being able to participate, but with a little assistance from Dad, he was able to hold one too. So thankful for this because he loves hugs and really enjoyed getting to hug the sloth. Interestingly enough, they did not weigh as much as I expected them to, much lighter than the 3-year-old I had been carrying around all week!

We then moved on the hold a parrot before ending with the monkeys. The parrot was very cooperative and cool to see up close – he would even give kisses! The monkeys were a lot of fun but empty your pockets first – they are thieves! Our whole group got to enter the area with the monkeys at the same time and it was fun to see them hopping around from person to person. They would jump on shoulders and heads and leap around effortlessly.

Extras
When we were getting ready to start our adventure with the animals at AJ’s Monkeys and Sloths, we were given the opportunity to purchase a picture package. The price of the package is normally $10 per person, which is a great deal. Since we were a large group, we were given an even better deal. By the time we were done, he had taken over 700 photos of our group that were sent to us in a file to download and keep. 700! To me, that is an amazing value. Would highly recommend a stop here if you are in Roatan!
